I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Carnival 2007 is going to be special!
Earlier this year I was told that Big Mike was not “ramping” with the research of his theme for Carnival 2k7, and “the proof is in the pudding” for real.
God alone knows how long I’ve been waiting to see Big Mike and Team Legacy raise the bar on their mas, fair enough under the now defunct Legends, Mike and Co have already proven their pedigree four times over, with Band of the year titles in 99, 00,01,(03, which was made void), it about time they do it again with Legacy.
With the 2007 presentation of Hiawatha it seems to me, that Legacy or Mike is ready for dem this time!!
With this theme in which legacy say. “ We pay tribute to the strength, spirit and culture of this civilization which is also represented in one of our most loved traditional Mas forms. “
Legacy has taken the different native American Tribes or nations and Characters mentioned in the poem “Hiawatha” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and put together a tight looking “Indian mas band”. In sections like Apache Fire, Cherokee Trail, and Comanche Warriors, they even use the actual colours of these nations, in my opinion paying respect to the traditions of other peoples culture while depicting it in our own. 
I have always argued that once a designer does his research properly the results are always positive in the final product. For me next carnivals presentation of Hiawatha is Big Mikes and Legacy’s BEST WORK IN 5 YEARS!
What I like most about the band, the headpieces, Mike has decided not to over kill the war bonnet type headpiece but to also come up with some original headpieces too.
Since Genesis launched their website I had to return to them, for me this new look Genesis is the best upgrade I have ever seen a band make.
The designer, Douglas John has come up with a concept that not only captures the theme of Troy but also recreates that feeling of “old school mas” in a very “new school way”.
From the head peaces to the tie dyed fabrics, the sections of Troy are the most original thus far .
Sections like Andromromache captures the Greek sprit and style but also incorporates the carnival sprit with the tie dye, the Helen of troy section also uses this formula then has a front line that takes the section to a Genesis look we are more familiar with.
If you ever think that a Carnival could pass without any kind of comess and skandal yuh lie.
JUST LAST WEEK, i had to give props to ISLAND PEOPLE,for their website and costume designs, this week WHAT DOES MY BULLSHIT RADER PICK UP?
YEP, ISLAND PEOPLE AT AROUND 11 O CLOCK!......
Some producer people in Trinidad told me that the new band IP were infact importing their mas from China and only doing parts of the costumes here, no come on how is it that these people can get away with this year after year?
Why must these cultural pimps sell trini culture for big U.S. bucks but leave out the local talent out of the Carnival pie?
why is it that the very people who's LOVE and SWEAT that goes into makeing "we thing" one of the greatist shows on Earth always be made to suffer by the bigbusiness mas companies that want to turn Carnival into a waste land for the little man, and a CASH CROP for themselves.?
