Mas Jumbies, a new Jourvert 2007 band will hit Port of Spain with " DIABLE".
Brian Wong Won, Band Leader,Designer and Artist wants to bring back the MAS and FRIGHT in J'Ouvert and plans to put on quite a spectacle for spectators on j'ouvert morning with a real 21st century Devil band.
i cant wait to see it!!

Well being a J'Ouvert mas it's not supposed to be "pretty as heaven" so your reaction is just what the designer hoped for.
and you realy need to take another look at sacred hart.......
i know jouvert is not meant to be pretty thats the whole point but its that costume that jus aint sayin nuttin come on is that costume practical looking!!! somone eye sure to get take out by them spikes to me it jus look like something u would make at home for halloween out of left over trash i for one was anticipating this guys work and from the drawings etc on the website i was hoping for something really exciting and different but not so different itd ont make sense i have had a good look at sacred hart and was in trinidad when it hit the road and for me there are similarities between the costumes dont get me wrong i like to play pretty mas come monday and tuesday but jouvert is a time for me to get nasty and celebrate the ritual of jouvert i was just hoping to do it in something different this year!!

The first mas camp was the home ..somebody yard and yes any old cloth and cardboard was used too!

As for Minshall.....show me any young designer or Masman who knows about the Power of Mas, and has not been influenced by Minshall and i will show you a fraud.
if thats your response to me makin 2 comments on mas "jouvert mas" and you dont agree means i know nothing about mas then so be it and yes i have followed this blog and mas jumbies blog closly, by you making the comments you have made dont help matters i read these blogs to gain knowledge and understanding but i feel say you come across as a knower of all things mas yes i know they didnt have samaroos back in the day but they do today not that i would expect someone bringing out a jouvert band to go there for materials when i sugested that the costume was not pratical i meant the fact it have horns that look dangerous and the costume looks really restrictive as did the guy who made the costume he did say he would only make 20 or did i read wrong??? anyway i gotta go now the class for mas beginers starts soon.......
Anonymous, please read our blog, you will find much enlightenment on the subject at hand. This is not a Tuesday band. And we don't see how you can pass judgement when only 1 headpiece from a character section was shown. In so we only expect and want a very limited amount of these anyway. This band is not for everybody, it is meant to be different, we have many options available in which you can 'customized' yourself to suit but still remain in the masque's tradition. As for Minshall rip offs, I too saw Sacred Heart and had friends who played in it, so we have not a clue as to what you are talking about. From my recollection, I have never seen any Minshall mas looking like this. But we take it as a compliment nonetheless. Judging from your response, the band and its design has worked, as we wanted to cause a stir. This band was meant to be radical and certainly not pretty.
Anonymous, when at class please make a concencous effort to understand all that is taught to you at the Class for Mas Beginners. You may then have a better understanding of what it entails. And I urge you to once again reread the blog, it may take you some time but will prevent yourself from making such assanine remarks in the future.
gail i appreciate the response i aint mean to offend nobody i know it is only one costume and i know you are not a tuesday band as you said it is a character piece but really i can only comment on what i see really and although its not for me i anticpate the rest of the designs coming through as me and my friends are looking for a jouvert band to play proper mas with......
